Home Theater Interior Design

Home Theater Interior Design is by far one of the hottest trends in Interiors these days. Most people either convert a room such as a spare bedroom or even a garage while others build an addition for this space. If you are lucky enough to have a dedicated area in your home for this luxury you will want to make sure that you take the time to plan the space correctly.

First lets deal with the obvious. No Home Theater is complete without a large screen for viewing and some type of surround sound. It is advisable that you deal with an experienced audio/visual establishment to ensure that you have the correct size screen and the appropriate speaker system to accommodate the space.

Some people choose to go with a large screen television while others choose a projection screen system. Either way make sure that the screen is not too large for the space. This is one of the biggest mistakes that happens with Home Theater Design. If you have a smaller space with a screen that is over sized viewing can be very uncomfortable. BIGGER is NOT always BETTER!

The other Important Aspects of Home Theater Design are seating, lighting, acoustics and wall color. Seating can be as elaborate as specially designed theater seating or as simple as a grouping of nice recliners. It is crucial to consider comfort since you will most likely be viewing movies, sporting events, etc that will require sitting for an extended period of time.

It is best to arrange seating in an "Arc Shape" at least five feet away from screen. Be sure to plan where drinks and snacks will be put in order to avoid messy accidents. If you have more than one row of seating consider building a platform at least 6" - 7" high for every row of seating. This will ensure easy viewing for everyone no matter where they are sitting.

Lighting is an important aspect of Home Theater Design. Recessed or track lighting on a dimming system is the best option for this type of design. Two different switches should be installed so that lighting in the front of the room can be turned off during viewing while the lighting in the rear of the space can be dimmed to provide soft background lighting.

Don't forget to think about Acoustics when designing your Home Theater. Wall to wall carpet is the recommended flooring since it has great Acoustical properties. Think about hanging acoustical tiles on the rear and side walls of your Home Theater. The tiles should cover at least 1/3 of each wall surface. This can be as easy as buying some attractive Carpet tiles and making a colorful arrangement on the walls with adhesive. A piece of plywood with soft batting covered with attractive fabric stapled to the back and hung on the wall like a large piece of Artwork is another great way to achieve good Acoustics.

Last but not least wall and ceiling Color is a very important part of Home Theater Design. It is advisable to use a very dark color on both the wall and ceiling surfaces. You do not need to use black paint but a dark plum, gray, blue or cranberry in a flat finish can provide the same effect when the lights are dimmed.

Home Theater Interior Design can provide an enjoyable space for friends and family to enjoy.
