Bedroom Interior Design

With the increase of Daily Stress in many peoples lives Bedroom Interior Design is one of the fastest growing areas of Design and Decorating. As people search for a daily retreat from their busy lives and hectic work schedules creating a "Sleeping Sanctuary" is a popular trend we see with Bedroom Design today.

  • When planning a Bedroom you may want to focus on the best way to Create a Cool, Dark and Quiet Environment. For instance if you have large windows make sure that you plan on installing Window Treatments that will be room darkening. This can be accomplished by using black out shades, window panels that have a heavy lining or operable blinds or shutters. Layering window treatments is a good way to accomplish this task. Use decorative black out shades with side panels that can be completely closed.
  • If noise is an issue invest in a "noise machine" that helps to block out loud sounds like horns, traffic, etc. If heat is an problem try using thermal lined window treatments to block out the heat that builds up during daylight hours and investing in a good cooling system or air conditioner, even a ceiling fan. When you have a cool, dark, quiet room you will be half way to getting the rest that you need!
  • Now it is time to make your Bedroom beautiful ! ! ! How do you want the space to look? What Style do you find the most "Soothing and Relaxing" or "Romantic and Sensual"? If you need help deciding you may want to visit Interior Decorating Styles that can help you define the perfect Style for your Bedroom Interior Design Project.
  • Once you have decided how you want the space to look it is time to decide how you want to use the Space. Is this room only large enough for a Bed and some accent pieces or do you have enough room for a Sitting Area? Layout the room so when you are laying in the Bed you can see the door that enters the Bedroom from the hallway. If you have enough space for additional seating you may want to take advantage of any natural light in the room to arrange your sitting area.
  • Color is another integral aspect of Designing a Bedroom. The best way to choose what color your Bedroom should be is to first decide on your Bed Linens. Once you have found the Comforter, Duvet, Sheets, etc. it will easier to choose the paint color. Obviously color can be very soothing and some of the best tones are soft blues, greens, lilacs and golds. If you want a more Dramatic Color Scheme consider a darker tone behind the headboard of your bed with softer colors on the walls that you can see when you are laying in the bed. For more help with paint visit The Interior Decorating Color Schemes section of this website.
  • Lighting is yet another very important part of Bedroom Interior Design. Table lamps placed next to the bed will provide soft ambient light. It is also important to have a good source of overhead light such as floor lamps or Torchieres which are floor lamps that have the light source directed towards the ceiling.
  • Placing groups of floor plants in a Bedroom is a great way to accessories the space. Not only do they look beautiful but they give off oxygen and can help you get a good night sleep! Place some simple but beautiful accessories around the room. Try not to use too many reflective surfaces such as mirrors or accessories with metallic finishes. These items tend to reflect any light in the room and can be distracting when you are trying to sleep.
